PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University men's basketball team continued its strong start to the 2018-19 campaign, displaying their size and strength down low on Thursday night in a 90-77 triumph over Lewis & Clark College.
"This is a game that we would have probably lost earlier in the season," said Corban head coach Mitch Freeman. "They played hard and forced us to guard the whole floor. Kyle Owens is an exceptional shooter and forced us to guard him way beyond the three-point line. We took care of the ball and were able to score inside when we needed a basket."
Leading by 11 points at the halftime break, Corban finished the game strong while shooting 47.7% overall en route to the 13-point victory on the road.
The Warriors racked up 50 points in the paint on the evening compared to 24 points for the Pioneers, and Corban totaled 45 rebounds to just 30 for Lewis & Clark. Beau Roggenbach led the way with a 17-point performance to go with 13 rebounds, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor.
Three other players finished in double-figures for Corban, as Denis Kirichenko tallied 16 points on a 5-for-9 shooting mark, while Joel Johnson shot 50% from the field and recorded 15 points to go with 11 boards. In addition, Tyler Wadleigh went for 12 points in the win, including an 8-for-8 effort from the charity stripe.
Corban (7-1) returns to the hardwood for an exhibition next week at NCAA Division II foe, Central Washington University. Tipoff in Ellensburg is slated for 7 p.m. on November 24.
