EUGENE, Ore. – The Corban University women's basketball team earned a gritty win in the first game of the team's 2018-19 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) regiment, defeating Northwest Christian University on the road by a score of 72-61.
Despite the 11-point final spread, the bulk of Tuesday evening's bout was tightly contested, with the teams battling neck and neck through the first three quarters. It wasn't until the fourth and final period—during which the Navy and Gold outscored the Beacons 27-16—that the Warriors were able to truly separate themselves, going 10-of-14 from the field and 3-of-4 from downtown to eliminate any chance of a Beacon comeback.
Emily Yost (17 points, 11 rebounds) was dominant down low for the Warriors, pacing Corban's offense with her double-double performance. As Warrior fans have come to expect, Jordan Woodvine was also exceptional in Tuesday's triumph, scoring a game-high 20 points. Warrior guards Abby Forsyth (11 points, five rebounds, three steals) and Treasure Farmer (10 points, three assists) also finished in double-digit scoring, with Forsyth's effort marking a new career best.
Equally as impressive as Corban registering four players with at least 10 points was the Warrior defense's ability to prevent any member of Northwest Christian from reaching double digits, with Sarah Reinecker and Connor Borigo each notching nine points to lead the Beacons in scoring.
The win serves as a strong first impression for the Navy and Gold in conference play, as the team will now prepare for a brief spell of non-conference contests before returning to CCC competition in mid-December.
Corban's (5-3, 1-0 CCC) next action will be on December 6, when the squad hosts Willamette University in the 2018-19 home-opener. Tip-off at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.
