No. 7 Warrior Softball Splits with No. 14 Southern Oregon in Ashland

ASHLAND, Ore. – The No. 7-ranked Corban University softball team responded in a big way on Friday afternoon, as after falling in nine innings against No. 14-ranked Southern Oregon University in the opener, 6-5, the Warriors responded with a 7-0 triumph in game two, earning the day one split.

"I am extremely pleased with the energy and effort from our team all day," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. We fought hard in game one, and it just didn't fall our way, but the team responded well and showed up for game two. We made great defensive plays in both games and got productions offensively out of so many kids today. Rachel, Alyssa, and Kaylee combining for the shutout all did an exceptional job."

Game one on Friday saw the Warriors fall behind early, trailing 4-1 after the first frame to the Raiders. Corban responded with four runs in the fifth inning, however, taking back a 5-4 lead.

SOU tied it up in the sixth, and the game eventually went to extra innings. In the ninth inning, the Raiders won it on a walk-off double.

In the defeat, Maddy Melton went 3-for-5 with one run scored, while Sam Woodley provided a 1-for-4 effort at the dish with two RBI.

Game two saw Corban provide the answer it needed to have, as Woodley ripped an RBI single to right field in the third, and Jessie Isham followed that up with a two-run bomb to left-center to make it 3-0.

Corban tacked on two more in the fifth and the sixth to extend the advantage to 7-0, sealing the deal on the day-one split. Woodley finished 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Isham went 3-for-3 with two RBI. In addition, Megan Rybar went 2-for-4 for the Navy and Gold with one RBI.

In the circle, it was a total team effort, as Rachel White was fantastic in the circle, tossing 4.1 innings of five-hit ball, allowing no runs. Alyssa Vidal came off the bench and threw 1.2 innings while only allowing two hits. Kayle Graney-Patterson then came on in the seventh to close the door, allowing no hits en route to securing the triumph for the Warriors.

Corban (20-6, 10-2 CCC) returns to action tomorrow against SOU (27-9, 11-3 CCC) for an 11 a.m. doubleheader to decide the series.
