ASHLAND, Ore. – The No. 7-ranked Corban University softball team lost a pair of contests in walk-off fashion on Saturday to No. 14-ranked Southern Oregon University, dropping the series, three games to one. SOU won game one on Saturday, 1-0, and game two (non-conference) in eight innings, 11-10.
"These were tough losses for us," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "In game one, Sabrina threw a great ballgame and they were able to string clutch hits together at the end to walk away with it. I thought we bounced back well in game two, finding ways to produce runs. I think we had plenty of opportunities to take control of the game, and we didn't. We will learn from today and use it to make adjustments to be better in the future."
Sabrina Boyd had a perfect game working into the seventh inning of game one on Saturday, but SOU strung together a trio of hits in that final frame, resulting in the Raiders' second walk-off win of the series.
Corban's offense got going in the final game of the series, and eventually took a 10-6 lead in the eighth inning. Needing to just close the door in the bottom half of the frame, the Warriors were unable to do so, as SOU (29-9, 12-3 CCC) rallied for five runs, resulting in the Raiders' third walk-off win of the series.
Kaylee Buhrkuhl went 4-for-5 in the loss with five RBI and three runs scored, while Megan Rybar gave Corban the lead in the extra innings with a solo home run.
Corban (20-8, 10-3 CCC) returns to action next week when it hosts the University of Providence on Friday and Saturday.
