No. 5 Warrior Softball Pounds Eagles in Doubleheader Sweep

KIRKLAND, Wash. – The No. 5-ranked Corban University softball team pounded out 23 hits and scored 18 runs on Friday en route to earning a Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) doubleheader sweep of Northwest University. After winning the opener in five frames, 9-0, the Warriors then won game two, 9-5.

"I'm proud of our team for their performances today," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "In game one, Sabrina threw a great game and Sam did an amazing job behind the plate. We had a lot of production offensively out of so many players, it was a fun game."

Game one saw Sabrina Boyd dominate in the circle, going the distance for her fifth complete game of the 2018 campaign, earning her second complete-game shutout while allowing just four hits in the process.

At the dish, it was Mahina Chong who had a monster game in just the five innings, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, while Sam Woodley also registered a big hit, going 1-for-3 with two RBI. In addition, Maddy Melton and Kaylee Buhrkuhl both recorded two hits in the victory.

Game two saw Corban explode for five runs in the third, and it was Jessie Isham that provided the bases-clearing three-RBI double to cap off the big frame. Northwest scored four in the fourth to cut into Corban's lead, but Chong blasted a home run in the fifth to extend the advantage.

Eventually, Sophia Barbosa and Buhrkuhl both had big RBI hits en route to closing out the triumph.

"In game two, we found a way to get the win," said Farler. "It was a total team win, and we had help from every player during the game to find a way. Offensively, we had a lot of runners on and kept pressure on which was nice. Kaylee did a great job of coming in to close for us and shut the door."

Rachel White earned the win in relief for the Navy and Gold, throwing three innings while allowing just one run.

Corban (10-4, 3-0 CCC) returns to the field on Saturday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader with the Eagles. The first game will be a CCC contest, while the second game will be a non-conference game.
