CALDWELL, Idaho – The No. 13-ranked Corban University softball team exploded in game one for a 13-1 win over the College of Idaho in six innings, but the Warriors stumbled in the nightcap to the Yotes, 4-2.
"Our offense was on fire in game one and showed what we are capable of," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "We lost momentum going into game two. Although we got a great performance out of Kaylee closing, our defense did not bring the intensity that we needed throughout game two in order to beat a good team. We will adjust and come back stronger tomorrow."
Jessie Isham blasted a two-run shot early on in the contest to break a 1-1 tie, and from there on out, the Warrior bats remained hot en route to scoring 12 unanswered runs in the mercy-rule six-inning win. Sabrina Boyd earned the win in the circle in Friday's opener, going the distance while allowing just the one run on four hits.
Isham finished the contest 4-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored, while Megan Rybar went 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Game two saw the Warrior bats stifled at the dish, however, as it was just a Sam Woodley home run late in the contest that brought Corban back within striking distance, but the Warriors could not get back over the top in the two-run defeat. Woodley finished with a pair of hits, as did Maddy Melton.
Corban (24-9, 14-4 CCC) returns to the diamond on Saturday to close out the series against the College of Idaho (18-17, 8- 12 CCC). First pitch is slated for 10 a.m. PT. Live stats will be available tomorrow HERE.
