Warrior Women’s Soccer Takes Down Evergreen in CCC Opener, 2-0

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University women's soccer team got off to a strong start in its 2018 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) slate, cruising to a 2-0 triumph over The Evergreen State College on Friday afternoon.

"It's great to start the conference season with a win," said head coach Likius Hafeni. "We wanted to start well and keep our momentum from the last two games. We started a bit slow, but got better as the game went on. We hope to play a little better tomorrow and see if we can get three more points! That being said, we are very happy with our first points of the season."

Eve Ponce kick-started the Warrior offense, putting the Warriors ahead when she found the back of the net in the 31st minute. Ponce, who originally entered the game as a substitution, brought instant energy to the Corban attack, with her first goal of the year proving to be the difference-maker in the contest.

It was Rylee MacDonald who added the second-half insurance for the Navy and Gold, combining with Lexi McQueary to double the Warrior lead just a few minutes into the latter stanza.

In total, the Navy and Gold outshot the Geoducks by a margin of 27-9, maintaining control for the majority of the match.

Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Brock was tremendous between the pipes again for Corban, nabbing four saves en route to her second-consecutive shutout.

The victory serves as a strong foot forward as the Warriors step into conference play, with another CCC foe on deck tomorrow.

Corban (4-2, 1-0 CCC) will host Northwest University tomorrow at the CFC Soccer Complex, with start time scheduled for 7 p.m.
