ASHLAND, Ore. – The No. 18-ranked Corban University men's soccer team battled in overtime for the second-straight day on the road, ultimately drawing with (RV) Southern Oregon University after two overtimes, 0-0. The draw keeps both the Warriors and Raiders tied atop the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) regular-season standings.
"I am really proud of the way our team performed this weekend," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "The guys really focused on what they could control and found ways to get clean sheets at difficult places to play. I am confident that this weekend's experiences will only fuel more growth moving forward."
The Warriors created a number of opportunities in the first 45 minutes, with a scissor-kick attempt going wide, as well as a clean look on goal from Jesse Martin being saved.
At the break, the score was level at 0-0.
In the second half, the Raiders outshot Corban, 6-2, but the Navy and Gold remained compact defensively, keeping it scoreless heading to overtime. Corban did have a great chance to win it in regulation, but Alex Segovia's one-on-one breakaway was saved by SOU's Wyatt Zabinski near the end of the 90 minutes.
With the match still scoreless, the Raiders generated a number of chances off of long-throw opportunities in the first overtime, almost poking the ball into the net on a couple of occasions, but Jordan Salim and the Warrior defense did their job, getting in front of shots to send it to a second overtime.
The second overtime saw neither team find the back of the net again, resulting in the 0-0 stalemate between the two CCC foes.
Corban put three shots on frame, forcing Zabinski to make three saves, while the Raiders put five shots on goal, forcing Salim into five key saves. For Salim and Corban, it marks the fourth-consecutive shutout for the squad.
SOU has now blanked seven of its last eight opponents and are unbeaten in the squad's last nine matches.
Corban (8-1-1, 5-0-1 CCC) returns to the pitch next weekend when it hosts Northwest Christian University. Kickoff on October 6 is slated for 7 p.m.
