No. 7 Corban Volleyball Falls to No. 23 College of Idaho in Five

CALDWELL, Idaho – For the second-consecutive night, the No. 7-ranked Corban University volleyball team battled for five sets on the road against an NAIA top-25 foe, this time in Caldwell, Idaho against No. 23 College of Idaho. The Yotes were able to endure a late Warrior push to hold onto the victory (25-18, 25-23, 22-25, 21-25, 15-12).

"We struggled tonight at the net—both offensively and defensively—in the first two sets," said head coach Kim McLain. "I was proud of how the team responded, making adjustments to battle in the fifth set. We are disappointed with the outcome, yet we learned so much about who we are as we continue the journey."

Hitting at a .111 percentage in set one and a .121 mark in set two, the Navy and Gold offense had a hard time building momentum in the early stages of Saturday's match. The Yotes jumped out to an early two-game lead, threatening a sweep in front of the crowd at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The Warriors stormed back in sets three and four, earning 25-22 and 25-21 triumphs to force the squad's second five-set match in as many days. The two Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) giants battled back and forth in the deciding game, but the Yotes pulled away late to survive the Warriors' comeback attempt.

Four members of the Yotes' roster—Ashley Pagan (18), Jordyn Boswell (17), Austyn Mauzy (17), and Jade Warren (10)—finished with at least 10 kills in the triumph. College of Idaho moves to 13-6 overall and 8-4 in CCC play.

Corban was led offensively by Adriana Aguayo, who finished with a team-high 10 kills on a .200 attack percentage. Sarena Bartley (nine kills, .318 attack percentage), Cassie Cunningham (nine kills, .152 attack percentage), and Sarah Randall (seven kills, .294 attack percentage) played significant roles on the offensive end, as well.

Cierra Leopoldino and Jadyn Mullen each registered 19 digs while directing the offense. On the defensive end, Kealani Ontai and Lauren Condon led the way, tallying 18 digs and 14 digs, respectively.

The Warriors (13-5, 10-2 CCC) will return home next weekend for Homecoming Weekend, hosting Evergreen on Friday (October 18) and Northwest on Saturday (October 19). First serve for both matches is slated for 7 p.m.
