SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Three second-half goals—two of which came from Klarissa Barajas—vaulted the Corban University women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Northwest Christian University on Saturday afternoon, spoiling the Senior Day festivities for the Beacons.
"Good team win for us today," said head coach Derek Faulkner. "We dominated the ball in the first half and created some good chances, but we couldn't find the back of the net. We got a great spark off the bench in both halves that really was the difference maker. We continue to have different people step up on different days, and this was just another good example of that."
The defenses took center stage in the game's first half, with goalkeepers Elizabeth Brock and Katie Hastings leading their defenses to scoreless first halves.
Barajas, who came off the bench, landed the first blow of the contest in the 54th minute, netting her fifth goal of the season. The goal—which was assisted by Rylee MacDonald—tied Barajas for the team lead in goals for the season.
The standout from Kennewick, Wash. then assisted the Warriors' next goal, which came off the foot of Annouscka Kordom (5) in the 69th minute. Not done there, Barajas would go on to cap off her outstanding day in the 72nd minute, sealing the brace with her second goal of the game.
The goal pushed Barajas into the team lead in the category with sixth this fall.
Defensively, Brock was exceptional between the pipes, collecting four saves en route to the shutout.
The Warriors (record) will return home next weekend for the final regular-season contest of the 2019 season, hosting Rocky Mountain College on November 3.
"We are looking forward to next weekend and continuing to get better for the postseason," Faulkner added.
Prior to the match, the Warriors' seniors will be honored in the squad's 2019 Senior Day ceremony.
