ASHLAND, Ore. – The No. 13-ranked Corban University volleyball team was unable to upend No. 4-ranked Eastern Oregon in Friday afternoon's Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Semifinal match, presented by U.S. Bank. The Mountaineers claimed the match in straight sets (25-22, 25-16, 25-20).
"We played well in the back court, but struggled to defend and terminate at the net," said head coach Kim McLain. "We look forward to getting back in the gym to continuing working as prepare for nationals."
Despite the defeat, the No. 13-ranked Warriors are still eligible to earn an at-large berth to the NAIA National Tournament, with the squad's 2019 credentials (20-8, 16-4 CCC) and national ranking providing strong support for Corban's case.
In tonight's match, the Navy and Gold struggled to gain offense traction against the Mountaineers, attacking at negative clips in sets one and two (-.049, -.064) and tallying equal kills-to-errors (7-7) in the third game.
Only the Warriors' Sarena Bartley (.105) hit at a sub-zero percentage in the match.
Avari Ridgway finished the night with a team-high six putaways, while Bartley and Adriana Aguayo were right behind her with five apiece.
Three members of Corban's roster finished with double-digit digs on the defensive end, with Kealani Ontai notching a team-high 18, Lauren Condon tallying 13, and Makenna Campbell registering 10.
The Mountaineers gave the Warriors trouble at the net, earning 11 blocks as a unit. Cambree Scott led the team in the category, registering six in total.
First-Team All-Conference honoree Megan Bunn spearheaded Eastern Oregon's attack, ending the night with a game-high 11 kills.
The Warriors won't have to wait long to discover their fate, as the NAIA Volleyball National Qualifier Reveal will take place on Monday (November 18) at 10 a.m. CST.
