MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Corban University men's basketball team was unable to keep up with the red-hot shooting of Western Oregon University on Saturday afternoon, falling in an exhibition by a final score of 91-71.
"We played a lot of different combinations tonight, but we just couldn't string together multiple stops," said head coach Mitch Freeman. "Western Oregon executed and shot the ball well all game. Not only did they shoot well, but they forced us into 18 turnovers. We hope to get things figured out as we get back to conference play next weekend."
The Wolves shot at an exceptional 51.5% clip from the floor, draining 16 three-pointers (43.2%) in the triumph.
Corban had the advantage at the glass, outscoring the Wolves in the paint by a 40-28 margin. Turnovers proved costly to the Navy and Gold, however, as Western Oregon capitalized for 21 points on Warrior giveaways.
Jaylyn Richardson led a quartet of double-digit scorers for Western Oregon, leading all players with his 21-point performance. Dalven Brushier added 17 points on six boards, while Cameron Cranston (14 points, six rebounds) and Tyreek Price (12 points) each ended the night in double-figures, as well.
For the Warriors, Tyler Wadleigh led the way offensively. The sophomore guard continues to showcase his ability to score and distribute, leading the team with 15 points and four assists.
Beau Roggenbach spearheaded the effort at the basket, ending the night with nine points and a team-leading six rebounds.
The Warriors (7-6, 1-2 CCC) will return to Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) competition next weekend, hosting Northwest University (December 20) and The Evergreen State College (December 21) in a pair of conference clashes. Tip-off for both battles is slated for 7:30 p.m.
