Woodvine’s 26 Points Help No. 23 Corban Women’s Hoops Drop Walla Walla, 70-52

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – The No. 23-ranked Corban University women's basketball team picked up back-to-back Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) wins at Walla Walla University over the weekend. The latest of the two, the Warriors came out victorious by a score of 70-52.

"After a slow start, we played very well over the last three quarters," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "Our defense was consistent tonight, and we dominated in rebounding as a team. Jordan Woodvine really led the surge for a stretch in the second half and helped us gain some separation."

The Warriors were led by an otherworldly performance from senior standout Woodvine, as she picked up 26 points in a masterful display of shooting. She shot at a 7-of-9 (77.8%) clip in the tilt, and was perfect from beyond the arc, making all three of her attempted shots from downtown. The free-throw line was Woodvine's friend as well, as she picked up nine free points from the stripe, shooting 9-of-10.

The boards were a point of strength for the Navy and Gold, as they gathered in 50 rebounds for a plus-19 advantage over the Wolves. Kendra Murphy and Shaelie Burgess each had seven boards, while Woodvine chipped in with six of her own. Rayna Pilgeram added five more to the Warrior cause. Half of the team's rebounds were credited to these players (25/50).

Carolina Montes was the Wolves top scorer, as she picked up 17 points on 6-of-18 (33.3%) from the field.

The Wolves struggled to get the offense going due to the stifling defensive effort put forth by the Navy and Gold. Each of the shots that the Walla Walla shooters took were strongly contested by a Corban defender. The smothering effort on the defensive side of the ball forced the Wolves to finish with a meager 28.6% field goal percentage.

After their two weekend triumphs over Walla Walla, Corban (6-4, 2-1 CCC) has improved their conference record over the .500 mark. The Warriors will face an exhibition opponent in Western Oregon University on December 16 in Monmouth, Ore. before coming back home to the comforts of the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center to host Northwest University and The Evergreen State College for two CCC matchups on December 20 and 21, respectively.
