No. 19 Corban Women’s Basketball Claims Regular-Season Sweep of NCU

SALEM, Ore. – Trailing by 10 points at the halftime break, the No. 19-ranked Corban University women's basketball team stormed back to outscore Northwest Christian University by 21 points in the second half, downing the Beacons to complete the regular-season sweep, winning 60-49. For the Warriors it marks the first time the program has reached the 20-win plateau in seven seasons.

"Our leadership really showed up big tonight after a poor first half, the team came out determined and turned things around in the second half," said Corban head coach Bill Pilgeram. "We finally were able to string together some stops and got some momentum to start the third quarter."

The Warriors were stifled early by NCU's defense, scoring just 11 points in the first quarter and then just 13 points in the second stanza. Dani Baker caught fire in the second quarter for NCU, hitting four-consecutive long-range efforts to put the Beacons up by 10 points going into the locker rooms.

The second half was a completely different story, as the Warriors exploded for 25 third-quarter points, scoring one more point than they did in the entire first half. In the fourth quarter, the Warriors built on the lead and locked down defensively, allowing just four fourth-quarter points to be scored by NCU, finishing off the 11-point victory.

Emily Yost led the way with 16 points on an 8-for-10 shooting effort to go with five boards and three steals, while Lindsay Asplund contributed nine points, Heidi Mueller nine points on a trio of long-range efforts, and Jordan Rasberry recorded eight points. In addition, Jordan Woodvine chipped in seven points and six assists to go with a team-best 10 boards.

"Emily Yost put together another huge performance and Treasure led the comeback at both ends," said Pilgeram.

NCU (10-19, 7-13 CCC) was led offensively by Baker with 14 points, while Sarah Reinecker recorded 10 points in the defeat for the Beacons.

Corban (20-8, 14-4 CCC) returns to the court this weekend when it plays its final two regular-season contests of the 2018-19 season. Tipoff on Friday against Walla Walla University is slated for 12 p.m., while Saturday's Senior Night will begin at 6:30 p.m.
