Grand Slam and Late Comeback Lift No. 16 Corban Softball to Perfect Record against NCAA D2 Teams

PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 16-ranked Corban University softball team closed out the Cavalier Classic on Sunday in style, remaining perfect against NCAA Division II teams with gritty wins against Central Washington University (4-2) and Saint Martin's University (5-4). The Warriors finish the Cavalier Classic with three wins and zero losses against their NCAA Division II foes.

"I am so proud of our team today! I thought that they played very well and fought very hard," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "We saw outstanding offensive production at key times from several people today to go with some huge defensive stops. Sarah pitched well for us in game one and I thought Alyssa and Rachel did a great job in relief behind her. All-around, it was a solid day of Corban softball and we saw what we are capable of."

In Sunday's opener against Central Washington, the Warriors played standout defense and had timely pitching against the Wildcats, stranding a number of their runners to give themselves an opportunity to come up clutch at the plate.

Fast forward to the sixth inning with the bases loaded and the score tied at 0-0, Jessie Isham launched a long home run over the left-field fence to put the Warriors up 4-0 via the grand slam.

While CWU would score a pair in the bottom half of the frame, Corban finished out the contest to deal the Wildcats the loss.

Isham finished with two hits in the win, while Sam Woodley also recorded a pair of knocks for the Warriors in the triumph.

In the circle, Sarah Probasco went three innings, giving up no runs on five hits, while Alyssa Vidal earned the win, allowing two runs and two hits, and Rachel White recorded the save, retiring all six batters she faced.

Game two saw the Warriors and SMU Saints face off for the second time at the tournament, and this time, it took a savvy come-from-behind effort to lift the Navy and Gold to the win.

After falling behind by a pair of runs in the third, the Warriors pulled back two in the fourth to tie up the ballgame. The Saints took a two-run lead in the fifth, but certainly not out of it, Corban rallied for three in the sixth, highlighted by and RBI double from Makiah Johnson and an RBI single from Tabby Humphrey.

Eight different Warriors recorded hits in the triumph, while both Isham and Johnson finished with a pair of RBI each.

In the circle, Ally Crakes went 4.2 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits, while Lauren Besse come on in relief and actually earned the win, giving up just one hit and no runs. Alyssa Vidal slammed the door shut, throwing 1.2 frames of no-hit ball, facing just five total batters while earning the save.

Corban (6-4) is slated to return to action next Friday and Saturday when it opens up conference play against Carroll College (Mont.). Stay tuned for any updates to the schedule due to weather as the week progresses.
