No. 16 Corban Softball Wins Twice against (RV) Carroll in CCC-Openers

HILLSBORO, Ore. – Riding the long ball, timely pitching, and standout defense, the No. 16-ranked Corban University softball team earned two Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) wins on Friday at the Gordon Faber Complex against Carroll College (Mont.), winning game one 7-3 and game two, 4-0.

"I thought all three aspects of our game looked good today," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "Pitching gave us great balls to work with on defense, and our defense made some huge double plays. Offensively, we were able to string hits together and come up with some timely RBIs. I like that we kept our energy up and pressure on the opponent consistently throughout both games."

Carroll jumped in front in the opener, but Corban's Sam Woodley blasted a solo shot over the left-field wall in the second frame to tie the contest at 1-1. The Warriors then tacked on four runs in the third and two more in the fourth en route to claiming the game-one triumph.

Sarah Probasco earned the game-one victory for Corban, tossing 4.2 innings while dispersing seven hits and three runs, while Alyssa Vidal came on in relief, throwing 2.1 innings and giving up no hits and no runs.

At the dish, Tatum Prechtel, Mahina Chong, and Jessie Isham all finished with one hit and two RBI, while Kaylee Buhrkuhl and Sam Woodley both registered a pair of hits.

Game two was highlighted by a rookie's first-career hit, and it was a big one as it went over the fence. With the game scoreless in the second frame, freshman Madison Wyllie stepped up to the plate and blasted a grand slam to left field, rounding the bases with the Warriors up 4-0 and with her first-career Warrior hit.

In the circle, Vidal came on in relief in the second inning and continued her momentum from the first game, throwing six scoreless frames while dispersing four hits. Corban's defense in the second contest was outstanding, turning four double plays en route to the shutout win.

In the game-two triumph Makiah Johnson went 2-for-2 for the Warriors at the dish and was the only Corban player with multiple hits.

Tess Eaton took the loss for the Saints, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out six. At the plate, Amber Brewer went 2-for-3 in the defeat.

"I'm very proud of Alyssa Vidal's pitching performance in both games today," said Farler. "Watching Wyllie get her first-collegiate hit in such dramatic fashion was fun for the entire team! We are grateful that we got great weather and a great facility to play ball at today!"
