No. 16 Warrior Softball Completes Four-Game Sweep of (RV) Carroll

HILLSBORO, Ore. – Finishing off the four-game series sweep, the No. 16-ranked Corban University softball team won in convincing fashion in Saturday's opener, 8-1, before then edging Carroll College in the final game of the series, 2-1. The win is Corban's eighth in a row overall.

"We earned two more quality wins today," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "Our pitching in both games was absolutely awesome! Both Sam and Jessie did a great job behind the plate, leading our pitching staff and defense! We had great offensive production from so many kids throughout the lineup, and it was really fun to watch the team work together to get the runs necessary to win."

Jessie Isham got things going in the Saturday's opener and final game of the CCC portion of the series, as she blasted a two-RBI triple to center field in the first to make it 2-0. By the third, it was 6-1 in Corban's favor thanks to a Sam Woodley three-run home run to left field, scoring Makiah Johnson and Tatum Prechtel.

The Warriors would add a couple of more en route to the dominating seven-run triumph, led by Sarah Probasco's performance in the circle, as she went all seven innings, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out six.

Tatum Prechtel went 3-for-3 at the dish with three runs scored, while Isham went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. In addition, both Woodley and Mahina Chong totaled two hits apiece, while Woodley finished with a team-best three RBI.

In the game-one loss for the Saints (2-5), Ashley Davis hit a solo home run.

Already knowing they would be coming home with all three CCC wins, the Warriors took control of the final contest of the series in the second frame, taking advantage of a Carroll error to score a run. Isham then launched a solo shot over the left-field fence in the fourth to double Corban's advantage.

Rachel White pitched brilliantly in the circle, having allowed just one hit and no runs through six innings, looking to go the distance. Carroll, trying to rally, however, recorded three hits in the seventh and got one run across to halve the deficit with two outs. Alyssa Vidal came on in relief for White with the bases loaded and two outs, and she forced the Saints into a groundout to Woodley at first base, ending the game to complete the series sweep.

Isham finished game two with a 2-for-3 showing, scoring both of Corban's runs, while White earned the win in the circle, going 6.2 innings while allowing just the four hits and one run. Vidal earned the save, facing just one batter.

"I'm proud of how settled our defense stayed despite a couple of miscues," said Farler. "That is really what we want out of this team – to be resilient and to be able to answer back when needed. They definitely displayed those qualities today!"

Corban (10-4) is slated to return to action next weekend against Eastern Oregon University. Stay tuned as to the location and dates of those games due to weather and field conditions.
