No. 14 Warrior Softball Rides Long Ball to Series Victory over Yotes

SALEM, Ore. – Riding three home runs in game two on Sunday, the No. 14-ranked Corban University softball team earned a series win over (RV) College of Idaho, splitting Sunday's contests to take three of four from the Yotes in the series. C of I won the CCC contest on Sunday, 9-2, while the Warriors won the non-conference game, 5-2.

"We had a rough game in game one," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "Not one aspect of our game performed as well as it needed to in order to win the game. I thought we bounced back well in game two, and Rachel gave us a great game and deserved the win. Jessie and Mahina had some important home runs and we saw production offensively out of kids who we needed to step up. That was a quality win and we are excited to come back out and fight again tomorrow."

C of I was clicking early on in Sunday's opener, and it was Marissa Maddox who launched a three-run shot in the first inning to give the Yotes the early advantage. Corban responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame, but from that point on, C of I played very well defensively, stranding Warrior runners while also remaining hot at the plate.

Maddox tied the C of I school record in the fifth inning when she hit another three-run home run for her second homer of the contest while totaling a school record six RBI.

The Yotes would tack on a couple more late and claimed the triumph. Maddox finished 2-for-2 with four runs scored and six RBI, while Haley Loffer, Kylie Smith, and Lacie Miller all notched two hits apiece.

Collette Robert earned her ninth win of the year in the circle, going all seven innings while dispersing eight hits and allowing two runs.

Game two saw Corban's Jessie Isham blast a two-run moon shot over the left-field fence in the first inning, giving the Warriors the early 2-0 lead. Watch the home run here:

Mahina Chong then added a solo home run in the fourth, followed by Madison Wyllie lacing an RBI single to center field to make it 4-0. While the Yotes would pull one back, Isham left no doubt about her second home run, launching another long ball to make it 5-1. Watch Chong's home run here:

C of I (18-6, 6-3 CCC) would scratch across one more, but Rachel White finished out the complete game for the Navy and Gold, tossing all seven innings while giving up just six hits and two runs – only one of which was earned. She also struck out three in her fourth victory of the year.

Isham finished 2-for-3 at the dish with three RBI and two runs scored, while the Warriors totaled seven hits as a team.

In the loss, Maddox registered two more hits for the Yotes.

Corban (17-5, 8-1 CCC) returns to the field on Monday when it hosts the University of Providence (Mont.) for a CCC series. The series was originally scheduled to be played in Montana next weekend, but snow on the Providence field forced the games to be switched to be played at Warrior Field on March 18-19.
