A Tale of Two Matches for No. 19 Corban Volleyball on Day Two of Raider Classic

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 19 Corban University volleyball team concluded its grueling six-game season-opening road stretch with a pair of contests on Saturday. The Warriors took game one against Briar Cliff University with relative ease (25-21, 28-26, 25-21) before falling in straight sets to Concordia University (25-16, 25-22, 25-23).

Corban dominated the first match of the day, cruising to a straight-set victory over Briar Cliff in the squad's third contest of the weekend and fifth match overall.

During the battle, Cassie Cunningham continued to establish herself as one of the squad's top offensive weapons early in the 2019 campaign, turning in another impressive performance (15 kills, .379 attack percentage) in the victory. Avari Ridgway also excelled on the attack, racking up 11 putaways to go alongside a trio of block assists.

Jadyn Mullen dished out 26 assists while directing the Navy and Gold offense, while Cierra Leopoldino tacked on 13 of her own. Libero Kealani Ontai's defense shined yet again in the victory, with the sophomore from Pearl City, Hawaii adding 14 digs to her season tally.

The back half of Saturday's doubleheader featured an entirely different outcome for the Navy and Gold, with Concordia delivering a shocking conclusion to the Warriors' road trip.

Emmie Noyd racked up 15 kills on a .316 hitting clip to lead the way for the Bulldogs, while Camryn Opfer added 11 kills of her own.

The Warriors failed to see a single player reach double-digit kills in the latter half of the doubleheader, with Cunningham's nine putaways serving as the team best.

The Navy and Gold concludes the Midwest trip with a 3-3 overall record, and will now return home for an exhibition contest against NCAA Division II opponent Concordia University (Ore.) on August 31.
