No. 11 Corban Volleyball Steamrolls No. 5 Southern Oregon in Dominating Upset

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University women's volleyball team came into Friday night's home bout with No. 5 Southern Oregon with a victory on their minds, as evidenced by the (25-20, 25-20, 25-17) 3-set win in dominant fashion.

"I can't express how proud I am of this team and their relentless never-give-up effort", said head coach Kim McLain. "SOU is a great team and we knew we had to settle in and stay focused throughout the match."

The Raiders jumped on the Warriors early, as they jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first set. However, it was all Corban from there, as the Navy and Gold finished the first set on a 22-10 run to set the tone for the rest of the contest.

From that point on, the Raiders were no match for the homestanding Warriors, as Corban led for most of the second set and the entirety of the final one.

Southern Oregon received their first defeat within the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC), and fall to 13-2 (4-1) on the season. The Raiders were led by Taylor Ristvedt who tallied a match-high 13 kills. However, the Raiders only racked up a total of 29 kills as a team.

The SOU team hit-percentage was a measly .135 against Corban's strong .294 showing. Freshman Lanae Wohlmacher had a lot to do with the offensive success that the Warriors enjoyed, as she hit at a .600 clip with a team-high 11 kills.

Not only did she contribute on the offensive end, she was also credited with five block assists. Wohlmacher, Jacquelyn Clark, Avari Ridgway, and Sarah Randall totaled the 16 block assists that the Navy and Gold put on the scoresheet in the match.

It is no surprise that Cierra Leopoldino (18 assists) and Jadyn Mullen (16 assists) fed the offense all match long, with 34 total assists.

The Warriors just keep rolling along, as they have now won each of their first five conference contests to begin the season. Corban (8-3, (5-0)) will look to make it six straight conference wins when they face Oregon Tech in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.
