No. 19 Warrior Volleyball Sweeps No. 12 C of I in Electrifying CCC Opener

SALEM, Ore. – In front of an electric crowd at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center on Friday night, the No. 19-ranked Corban University volleyball team began its 2019 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) regiment on a high note. The Warriors downed the No. 12-ranked College of Idaho Yotes in straight sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-20), continuing the squad's strong start to the 2019 season.

"The team has been very intentional and focused all week to prepare for what they knew would be a battle," said head coach Kim McLain. "Their hard work paid off tonight and it was an all-around team effort. It is always great to get a win in the tough CCC."

A testament to the depth of the Warriors' offense, not a single player finished with a double-digit kill tally at the end of Friday's triumph, though eight members registered at least one putaway.

Avari Ridgway led the team with eight kills, while Cassie Cunningham registered seven of her own. Perhaps the most efficient Warriors were Lanae Wohlmacher (six kills, .429 attack percentage) and Jacquelyn Clark (four kills, .333 attack percentage); both were equally outstanding at the net, combining for six block assists and a solo block.

As Warrior fans have become accustomed to, sophomore libero Kealani Ontai energized the arena with a number of sprawling digs. The reigning CCC Honorable Mention award-winner ended the night with a team-best 13 digs.

Jadyn Mullen and Cierra Leopoldino directed the offense, racking up 16 assists and 11 assists, respectively.

The Yotes (5-3, 0-1 CCC) also failed to see a single member reach double-digit kills, with Jordyn Boswell accruing a team-high nine (.227 attack percentage) in the defeat. Errors proved costly to the perennial-powerhouse program, as the squad finished the night with 25 attacking errors, mustering an uncharacteristically low .047 attack percentage as a unit.

The Warriors (4-3, 1-0 CCC) have now played five of their first seven official contests against nationally-ranked opponents, and that trend will continue tomorrow night with No. 10-ranked Eastern Oregon University coming to Salem.

The Mountaineers are off to a torrid start in 2019, beginning their fall campaign with 11-straight victories. Corban will look to cool them off, with first serve for the battle scheduled to occur at 5 p.m.
