ASHLAND, Ore. – The Corban University men's basketball team traveled down south to a wintry Ashland, Ore. for a game against the No. 15-ranked Raiders of Southern Oregon. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the only thing cold about SOU on this night was the weather, as the red-hot Raiders were shot out of a cannon to a 101-73 victory over the Navy and Gold on Friday night.
"It wasn't our night tonight," said head coach Mitch Freeman. "Credit Southern Oregon for executing on both ends of the floor. We need to regroup and put this behind us quickly."
The Warriors were unable to keep up with the stellar offensive attack on the part of the Raiders, who shot an outstanding 52.1% from the field in the bout. The Navy and Gold's 40.4% showing from the floor was not enough on this particular night. The Raiders sunk 14 three-point shots en route to the big win.
Mauricio Smith was responsible for 19 points and five rebounds in the tilt. He shot 5-of-8 and added three makes from long range. His defensive effort in the game netted him two steals to his strong performance.
Isiah Quintero added 15 points to the Corban effort, while cleaning the glass for four rebounds of his own. He shot a perfect 5-of-5 and was also 100% from the charity stripe, shooting 5-of-5.
In an impressive offensive performance, five Raider shooters accounted for more than 10 points. Tate Hoffman (18), Jordan Hunt (15), Conor Carroll (12), Kaj Bansen (12), and Aaron Borich (10) each made at least four field goals and one three-pointer.
Southern Oregon had a three-rebound advantage in the game, thanks to Hunt and Allen Tez, who each picked up eight rebounds to propel the Raiders in the category.
The Warriors (9-11, 3-7 CCC) drop their first matchup of the weekend, but will be back at it tomorrow night against the No. 5-ranked Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, Ore. The tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
