Corban Men’s Hoops Sees Season End in CCC Quarterfinals against No. 1 C of I

CALDWELL, Idaho – Looking to pull off an upset on the road against the No. 1-ranked team in the NAIA, the eighth-seeded Corban University men's basketball team fell short against the College of Idaho in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Quarterfinals, presented by U.S. Bank.

The top-seeded Yotes extended their win streak to 22 games in their 85-67 triumph on Wednesday evening, ending the Warriors' season.

"Unfortunately, we just couldn't get our shots to fall tonight versus a very tough defensive team," said head coach Mitch Freeman. "Even down as much as we were in both halves, we never stopped competing."

The exceptional defense that has been the centerpiece of College of Idaho's success throughout the 2019-20 season was on full display at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

Entering tonight's game having limited opponents to an NAIA-low 39.7% mark from the floor, the Yotes held Corban to a 31.5% field goal percentage, while only two of the Warriors' 11 three-point attempts (12.5%) fell.

College of Idaho never trailed in the battle, led by 15 points from Ricardo Time—11 of which came in the second half. Big man Connor Desaulniers notched a double-double (10 points, 13 rebounds) on the evening, while Ivory Miles-Williams (11 points, nine rebounds) came off the bench and finished one board shy of a double-double of his own.

As a team, the CCC Regular-Season Champions shot 41% from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arc.

For the Warriors, AJ Hodges and Mauricio Smith matched each other for the team lead in scoring, with each dropping 13 points in the defeat.

Denis Kirichenko spearheaded the squad at the glass, collecting nine rebounds during his eight-point effort.

Five members of the Navy and Gold—Hodges, Mike Seng, Jason Smarr, Dominique Lawrence, and Elijah Welch—wrapped up their collegiate careers on Wednesday, with each playing a significant role on the squad in their varying lengths with the program.

"It's always tough to lose the last game of the season," added Freeman. "I am very proud of this group and will cherish the relationships that we have created; they will go way beyond the game of basketball."

Corban finishes the season with a 13-18 overall record, going 7-13 in conference play.
