No. 24 Corban Softball Completes Series Sweep of Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 24-ranked Corban University softball team pushed its win streak to 11 games on Sunday, claiming a pair of victories on the road against Warner Pacific University en route to a series sweep of the Knights. Corban claimed Sunday's game one in thrilling fashion, 9-7, before taking the non-conference finale by a 9-2 margin.

"After two exciting games yesterday, the girls came in focused and ready to push for two more wins today," said head coach Rachel Martin. "We got ahead early and Warner Pacific continued to challenge our battery and defense. Today's theme was timely hitting, as well as keeping first things first on defense. The girls truly showed their heart for each other and their ability to have one another's back in the third game of our series."

After Corban rattled off four in the first inning of game one—two of which came via a homer from Sam Woodley—the Knights answered with four of their own in the second. The two teams continued to battle back and forth for the remainder of the contest, with the Knights taking a late lead in the sixth on a dramatic two-run homer from former-Warrior Grace Utto-Galarneau.

The resilient Warriors responded with three in the top half of the seventh, as Tatum Prechtel (2-for-4) tied it with an RBI double, and Kaylee Burhkuhl (3-for-4) put the team ahead with a two-run double just a couple of batters later.

Six members of the lineup finished with multi-hit games, as Corban's first-five hitters combined to go 13-for-21 in the triumph.

In contrast to the game-one nail-biter, the series finale was a lopsided affair.

The Warriors controlled the contest from the onset, hanging three-spots in the third and fourth innings to claim a commanding lead. They would continue to apply offensive pressure consistently in the ballgame, adding insurance along the way, but it would be more than enough for Ally Crakes (CG, 2 ER), who struck out 12 Knights in an impressive effort in the circle.

Prechtel ended the game a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while Buhrkuhl (2-for-4), Mariah Hyre (2-for-4), Morgan Gleeson (2-for-4), and Megan Rybar (2-for-3) each made their presence felt in the box.

The Warriors (13-5, 8-1 CCC) will return home for a midweek doubleheader against NCAA Division II Saint Martin's University on Wednesday, with first pitch of the day scheduled for 1 p.m. at Warrior Field.

"We know the road ahead of us is going to continue to challenge us," Martin stated, looking at the squad's upcoming slate. "Our conference has so many solid teams, but with the challenges come refinement and growth with each outing."
