Corban Men’s Soccer’s Offense Stays Hot in 5-0 Defeat of Northwest

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University men's soccer team scored three first-half goals in a 5-0 victory over Northwest University on Friday afternoon at the CFC Soccer Complex, putting the game out of reach early en route to its fourth-straight win. It's the squad's largest margin of victory over Northwest in program history.

It didn't take long for the Warriors to strike, as Mark Ramdeen's first goal as a member of the Navy and Gold put the hometown team in front 1-0 in just the 10th minute.

Noah Dreves assisted the score with a beautiful ball over the top, which Ramdeen collected with a perfect first touch, and blasted in from close range to give the Warriors a lead.

Reggie Reyes then got a breakaway opportunity in the 34th minute, converting the chance with a low grounder fired past Eagle goalkeeper Alexander Thiehofe, stretching the lead to two.

With momentum surging in Corban's favor, a Northwest foul in the box gave Corban an opportunity to put the game on ice less than a minute later. Carlos Llamosa was tabbed to take the penalty kick for the Navy and Gold, and the veteran defender came through, making it a three-goal deficit in the 35th minute.

The impressive offensive display continued in the second half, as an unmarked Edson Jimenez elevated and headed in a corner from Ramdeen in the 57th minute, and Evan Hoover corralled and scored a deflection off Eagle keeper David Fulga in the 72nd minute.

It was another match with a lopsided shot count for the Warriors, as Corban out-shot Northwest 27 (11 on goal) to seven (five on goal).

Perhaps just as impressively, all five goals came from five different scorers, showcasing the depth of the Navy and Gold's attacking arsenal.

Justin Keegan turned in the type of steady presence between the pipes that Warrior fans have become accustomed to, notching five saves in his third shutout of the 2021 campaign.

Corban (7-3, 6-1 CCC) will return to its home pitch tomorrow, looking to earn another six-point weekend against The Evergreen State College. Kick-off between the Warriors and Geoducks is slated for 3:30 p.m.
