Golenor’s Big Day Lifts Corban Women’s Hoops to 63-57 Exhibition Win over WWU

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Corban University women's basketball team put together one of their best team performances of the season, a 63-57 victory, on Saturday afternoon in an exhibition road victory at NCAA Division II Western Washington University. The Warriors received a huge lift from Holly Golenor, as the Meridian, Idaho native had 27 points on the afternoon. She also led all players with eight rebounds.

Head coach Bill Pilgeram had this to say after his team's victory, "We came here to find some confidence and improve as a team, and we definitely did that today. We found something to bottle up and bring back to Salem for our last games before conference play. Holly was tremendous today; she scored inside and out and sparked our runs."

The Warriors started slow in the contest, trailing by as many as 15 points early in the second quarter. However, the Navy and Gold came to life late in the second stanza, closing out the quarter on a 9-0 run to head into the half trailing by just one. The second half was a back-and-forth affair, one which saw the Warriors take the lead for good with five minutes to play in the game. Corban had a huge day from the free throw line, going 17-of-21 (81%) to hold on for a narrow win.

Golenor (27 PTS, 8 REB, 8-of-9 FT) turned in her best game since joining the Navy and Gold last season. Halle Wright (15 PTS, 6 REB, 5 A, 5 STL) followed up her double-double in yesterday's game with another solid performance on both ends of the floor. Shaelie Burgess (9 PTS, 7 REB), Gemma LaVergne (6 PTS), Gracie McCoy (3 PTS), and Keila Tsutsui (3 PTS) rounded out the scoring for the Warriors.

For Western Washington, Mollie Olson (9 PTS) led the scoring efforts for the Vikings. Ten different players scored in the game for WWU, as they showcased a balance offensive attack.

Corban (1-3) ends the weekend in Seattle, Wash. with a split in their two exhibition affairs. The Warriors return to the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem, Ore. for a home matchup against Montana Tech on November 19, with tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
