Warrior Women’s Basketball Storms Back in 4th Quarter for 59-54 Win over MSU-N

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Trailing by seven entering the final period, the Corban University women's basketball team outscored Montana State University-Northern 17-5 in the fourth quarter, earning its first victory of the season (59-54) in thrilling come-from-behind fashion.

"That was a great comeback and fourth quarter," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "I was really proud of the team, battling back after getting down. We need to bottle up what we found in that fourth quarter stretch and keep that momentum going."

After an evenly matched first quarter, where both squads scored 15 points, the Skylights pulled ahead in the second period, and extended their lead to as much as 11 in the third quarter of play.

With their backs against the wall and a seven-point deficit ahead of them entering the final quarter, the Warriors shot at a 63.6% mark from the field and held MSU-Northern to just five points down the stretch, coming from behind to earn an exhilarating first victory in the 2021-22 campaign.

Keila Tsutsui, Izzy Boring, and Halle Wright all scored four points in the pivotal fourth period, while Alyssa Wyllie added a crucial three-pointer.

"Keila and LoLo [Alyssa] Wyllie both hit big outside shots during our run," added Pilgeram, talking about the clutch performances from his team in the fourth quarter. "Halle Wright was not going to be denied."

Wright finished with a team-high 13 points and five rebounds, while Boring ended the night with seven points and seven assists.

Gemma LaVergne added 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting in the victory, and Shaelie Burgess rounded out the Warriors in double figures with her 10-point, six-rebound, four-block effort.

Holly Golenor finished just a point shy of Corban's first double-double of the year, ending the afternoon with nine points and 10 boards.

The Warriors (1-1) will continue their Montana road swing tomorrow, facing off with the University of Providence at 2 p.m. MT.
