Navy and Gold Women’s Basketball Foiled by Warner Pacific, 71-55

PORTLAND, Ore. – Despite mounting a late comeback bid, the Corban University women's basketball team was unable to claw from behind on the road against Warner Pacific University on Friday evening, falling by a final score of 71-55.

"We made a great run to get it within four in the fourth before running out of gas a bit," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "Once again, I was very proud of the effort and passion our team played with!"

Holly Golenor started the scoring five seconds into the first quarter, but the Knights answered back with a layup from Kylie Guelsdorf. The Warriors scored again before Warner took a 5-4 lead, which they would end up holding onto for the rest of the game.

The Knights possessed a 14-point lead at halftime, and despite Corban making it a two-basket game with nine minutes left to play, that early advantage would endure.

The hometown team did significant damage when taking advantage of Corban giveaways, scoring 22 points off turnovers.

A picture of consistency, Golenor registered her third double-double of the season and sixth-straight game in double figures, scoring 17 points (season high) and grabbing 10 boards on the night. Gemma LaVergne continues to develop into a proficient scoring threat, matching Golenor for the team-lead with 17 points, while also adding six boards.

Freshman forward Madison Hodnett was a significant contributor for the Navy and Gold. The rookie had a career-best 10 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks in her 26 minutes.

Meanwhile, the Knights were paced by a 22-point, seven-rebound performance from Lynden Harry, who was joined by Courtney Jackson (10 points, nine rebounds), Guelsdorf (10 points, seven rebounds), and Amalya Sales (12 points) in double figures.

The Warriors (1-7, 0-2 CCC) return to the court tomorrow, once again facing off against a foe in the Rose City. Corban will tip-off against Multnomah at 3 p.m.
