KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Corban University women's soccer team rode an early goal from Skyla Vogelpohl to a 1-0 victory on the road against Northwest University on Sunday afternoon.
"We started really strong today," interim head coach Tim Kagey stated. "We are excited to get after it again tomorrow."
Jumping out to a quick advantage has been key for the Warriors' success in the 2021 spring campaign, with Vogelpohl serving as Sunday's early hero.
The veteran took a pass from Mei Suetsugo and slotted a low strike towards the right post. Eagle goalkeeper Kierstin Patefield went to a slide to try to corral the shot, but it was struck too firmly at close range, deflecting off of her outstretched arms and trickling into the back of the net.
That was all the Warrior defense would need, as Devan Archer was once again exceptional in between the pipes. She notched her third shutout of the season and lowered her rookie season goals-against-average to a measly 0.67, racking up five saves in Sunday afternoon's clean sheet.
It's the first Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) defeat of the season for Northwest.
The Warriors (4-2, 4-1 CCC) will rematch the Eagles tomorrow afternoon, concluding their two-game set with another match at 1 p.m.
