No. 13 Corban Volleyball Keeps Rolling with Doubleheader Sweep of Multnomah

LEWISTON, Idaho – The No. 13 Corban University volleyball team picked up right where it left off from its last trip to Lewiston, Idaho, opening its four-game weekend slate with a pair of straight-set wins against Multnomah University (25-12, 25-12, 25-22 and 25-14, 25-7, 25-21) on Friday. With the victories, Corban moves to 6-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play, winning 18 of the 19 sets it has played in the 2021 spring campaign.

"It was great to be on the court again, playing in the tough Cascade Conference," said head coach Kim McLain. "Multnomah played great defense, battling throughout the match. I'm proud of the team and how we continue to work. We need to continue focusing on the little things, and we look forward to getting back on the court tomorrow."

The Warriors were in control from the onset in game one, rattling off consecutive 25-12 triumphs in sets one and two against the Lions.

Multnomah fought fiercely to avoid a sweep in the opener, with the deciding game at one point tied at 20 apiece. Corban would pull away with a 5-2 run to close the stanza, however, sealing the match-one triumph.

Corban hit at a strong .310 clip as a team in the win, holding the Lions to a sub-.100 attack percentage in each of the three games.

Avari Ridgway was at the heart of the offensive explosion, leading all performers with 13 kills on an efficient .524 clip. Ally Tow was also impressive, collecting seven putaways on a .313 attack percentage.

Feeding the offense, Jadyn Mullen racked up a game-high 18 assists, while Ciarra Judson added a dozen of her own. On the defensive end, Kealani Ontai once again shined, compiling 10 digs in the victory.

The second match of the day followed a strikingly similar pattern as the first, with the Warriors cruising to two quick set wins and the Lions fighting admirably with their backs against the wall in the third and final game.

Ridgway once again stole the show on the offensive end, matching her season-high with 15 kills on a stellar .500 attacking clip, playing a key role in the day-one sweep.

Joining her at the forefront in the back half of Friday's twin bill was rookie Rylee Troutman, who registered 12 kills in the triumph at the tune of an efficient .417 mark.

Meanwhile, at the net, Cora Furman put together a complete performance on both sides of the ball, notching five kills on 11 total attacks (.364) and assisting four blocks.

Mullen handled the bulk of the setting responsibilities, dishing out a season-high 25.

Corban (6-0, 6-0 CCC) will return to the court at the Lewis-Clark State Activity Center tomorrow, this time facing off with Oregon Tech. First serve for game one is slated for 11 a.m., while the back half of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
