SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The No. 16-ranked Corban University men's soccer team continued its offensive dominance in Sunday's Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) opener against Bushnell University. The Warriors rattled off four goals in the first half to put the game out of reach early, eventually earning a 5-0 result against their Interstate-5 rival.
"I'm pleased with how we started conference today," stated head coach Tim Kagey. "We still have some details to improve on, but the group is in a good place right now. We are excited to play again tomorrow."
The Warriors fired off 29 shots (15 on goal) in the win, limiting the Beacons to just five (three on goal).
In his second shutout of the season, Justin Keegan notched three saves, two of which came in a crucial sequence in the 6th minute, when an agile double save from the 2019 All-CCC keeper kept the Beacons off the board.
For the third time in the team's first three games, Matheus Giron netted a goal in the first 15 minutes of the contest. Alex Anaya assisted the 11th-minute strike, which gave the Navy and Gold an early advantage.
That was only the beginning of the first-half fireworks, however, as reigning NAIA Offensive Player of the Week Noe Favila continued his torrid start to the 2020-21 campaign with a goal just five minutes later.
He then played a role in Corban's next goal, when he launched a corner kick into the fray that Carlos Llamosa headed into the back of the net (19').
The last of Corban's four first-half goals came via Giron, who finished off a rebound from his own penalty kick, capping off a brace just 30 minutes into the match.
Charles Cleyton was responsible for the squad's lone goal in the latter 45 minutes, which also came by way of penalty kick.
With three counting contests under their belt, the Warriors have now outscored their opponents by a gaudy 21-0 margin, showcasing the attacking firepower the squad possesses.
The Warriors (3-0, 1-0 CCC) will be back in action tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Les Schwab Sports Park, wrapping up their series with Bushnell with a Monday evening bout under the lights.
