LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 13-ranked and No. 2-seeded Corban University volleyball team has earned a spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament Championship tomorrow with a straight-set triumph (25-12, 26-24, 25-15) over No. 3 seed Oregon Tech on Friday in the CCC Tournament Semifinals, presented by U.S. Bank. With Regular-Season Champion Eastern Oregon's win in the day's other semifinal match, Corban has also booked its fifth-consecutive trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
"It is a great honor and privilege to be in the CCC final four," said head coach Kim McLain. "The team focused on the details of the game and pushed each other in practice, knowing this weekend would come down to those details and staying focused."
Corban took the first and third sets in dominating fashion, not trailing at any point in either game. Set two was a much tighter affair, but the Navy and Gold endured a late Owl rally in the thrilling game.
The Warriors held Oregon Tech to a team attacking percentage of just .049 for the match. That is the Owls' second-lowest mark of the season, with Corban's straight-set triumph on March 6 (.032) serving as the only occasion in which OIT was held to a lower hitting percentage.
In contrast, the Navy and Gold attack was firing on all cylinders on Friday, hitting at a .351 clip en route to the sweep.
All-Conference honoree Ally Tow turned in her best performance of the season to lead the way for Corban, totaling 13 kills on a ridiculous .619 attacking clip. Meanwhile, Sarena Bartley also delivered one of her biggest matches of the campaign, ending the night with 10 putaways (.500 attack percentage).
Another Warrior who was just recognized among the best in the conference, Avari Ridgway (nine kills, .333 attack percentage) demonstrated why she was just awarded with All-Conference plaudits for the second-straight year.
Jadyn Mullen (17 assists) and Ciarra Judson (14 assists) tag-teamed the setting responsibilities, combining for 31 assists on the night. Defensively, Kealani Ontai led the way with eight digs, though her, Makenna Campbell (7), Jadyn Mullen (6), and Marissa Uehara (5) all had at least five. At the net, Cora Furman was in on six blocks, tied for the second most she's compiled in a single game all season.
Faith Houck-Wylie finished with a team-high 11 kills for Oregon Tech, while Nicole Reyes ended the night with the squad's highest dig count (12).
Corban (11-4, 10-4 CCC) will now look ahead to its CCC Tournament Championship bout tomorrow at 4 p.m. with the top-seeded Mountaineers (16-0, 14-0 CCC). The two NAIA top-15 powerhouses went to five sets in each of their two meetings in the regular season, and tomorrow's championship duel promises to be another thriller.
