No. 15 Corban Volleyball Sweeps Day Two to Go Undefeated at HIU Summer Slam

FULLERTON, Calif. – Facing a pair of foes receiving votes in the NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top-25 Poll, the No. 15-ranked Corban University volleyball team swept each of its matches on Wednesday. The Warriors defeated (RV) Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in four sets (25-19, 25-18, 18-25, 25-20) in the morning matchup; the squad then capped off the Hope International University (HIU) Summer Slam with a straight-set triumph over (RV) The Master's University (25-12, 25-18, 25-14).

"Today was a good test," said head coach Kim McLain. "It exposed the skills we need to work on, but also showed the grit and tenacity this team has! We are looking forward to the upcoming matches."

The Warriors nearly cruised to a third-straight sweep in the 8 a.m. duel with Embry-Riddle, taking the first two sets thanks to a suffocating defensive presence. Corban held the Eagles to a .053 hitting percentage in the opening set, before limiting the squad's adversary to a negative clip (-.097) in game two.

Embry-Riddle battled back to force a fourth set, but the Warriors would prove to be too much in the end.

Corban's All-Conference attacking trio of Avari Ridgway (12 kills), Ally Tow (12 kills), and Rylee Troutman (11 kills) led the charge offensively. Meanwhile, Sarena Bartley continues to serve as a valuable and efficient presence at the net, racking up seven kills on a .467 hitting percentage.

Four Warriors—Kealani Ontai (24 digs), Jadyn Mullen (13 digs), Troutman (12 digs), and Ridgway (10 digs)—finished with double-digit dig totals, showcasing the squad's balanced defensive presence.

Meanwhile, Mullen dished out 24 assists, while Ciarra Judson notched 18 of her own.

In a rematch of last year's NAIA Opening Round, the Warriors battled (RV) The Master's in the fourth and final matchup of the HIU Summer Slam. Corban was able to replicate the outcome of last year's contest, cruising past the Mustangs in three games.

Ridgway and Troutman were the headliners of the triumph, notching 15 kills apiece in a dominant display. Ridgway attacked at an otherworldly .636 attack percentage—the third-best percentage of her career—while Troutman hit at a .314 mark.

Ontai once again led all performers with 16 digs, and Mullen ended the triumph with 23 assists as the primary setter.

It's hard to imagine a better start for the high-powered Warrior squad, who starts the season on a four-game winning streak ahead of a pivotal two-match series against one of the NAIA's best.

The Navy and Gold (4-0) will finish off its time in southern California this weekend, battling No. 9-ranked Westmont in a pair of highly anticipated matches on Friday and Saturday in Santa Barbara, Calif.
