SALEM, Ore. – In the squad's final tune-up before starting Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play, the No. 7-ranked Corban University volleyball team gave the fans at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center an impressive showing in Saturday afternoon's exhibition against Willamette University.
Corban cruised to a straight-set victory (25-13, 25-16, 25-15) over its crosstown rival, attacking above a .300 hitting clip as a team in each of the three games.
"Today was exciting to finally play on our home court in front of our amazing Warrior fans," said head coach Kim McLain. "This match was a great opportunity to start preparing us for the start of conference play."
At no point did Corban trail in the entirety of Saturday's exhibition bout, and the Warriors held Willamette's attack to a negative hitting percentage (-.050) in the match.
Rylee Troutman was the Warriors' leading kill-getter, tallying 11 on a .375 attacking mark.
Right behind her was Ally Tow, who notched nine putaways on an outstanding .692 hitting clip. Rookie Ainslie Ridgway also put together a strong offensive performance, ending the afternoon with six kills (.500 attack percentage).
Jadyn Mullen led all performers with 14 assists—more than the entire Willamette roster combined—while adding seven digs on the defensive end. Kealani Ontai spearheaded the Warriors in the latter category, registering nine digs in total.
Corban (6-0) will now shift its sights toward CCC competition, which begins next weekend. It'll be trial by fire for the Navy and Gold, who will begin conference play with a challenging road series against College of Idaho and No. 14-ranked Eastern Oregon University.
