HELENA, Mont. – The No. 23-ranked Corban University men's soccer team capped off a valuable six-point road weekend with a nail-biting victory over Carroll College on Sunday afternoon, outlasting the hometown team in a 2-1 triumph.
Less than 15 minutes in, Matheus Giron got the scoring started for the Navy and Gold, drawing first blood with a finish at the back post off a deflection off the keeper.
Carroll had a number of opportunities to pull even, but Warrior goalkeeper Justin Keegan turned in a number of impressive saves to help preserve the early advantage.
After a tense remainder of the first half, the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Warriors heading into the midway mark. The hometown team equalized shortly into the second stanza, however, as Rory Bloy evened the score at one apiece.
The two squads jostled for an advantage throughout the rest of a physical second half, but it was Arche who delivered the game-winner for Corban in the 77th minute. After scoring the first goal of the match, it was Giron who assisted Arche's go-ahead strike, which would prove to be the difference for the Navy and Gold in the thrilling 2-1 road triumph.
Keegan finished with five saves in net to spearhead the Warrior defense, tallying his third win of the season.
With the win, the Warriors (3-2, 2-0 CCC) cap off a 2-0 weekend of competition, finishing a rigorous two-state road trip with a pair of valuable Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) wins.
The squad will be back on the road next weekend, facing off with College of Idaho on Friday, and Eastern Oregon University on Saturday.
