LA GRANDE, Ore. – After a tough loss in Idaho, the Warriors were hoping to bounce back with a win against Eastern, but the No. 13 ranked Mountaineers were able to overcome a passionate Corban team.
Tim Kagey, Director of Soccer, reports that, "Not the result we wanted but very proud of where the girls are at mentally. We can't wait to play at home in front of our amazing fans!"
The Mounties did not waste time putting pressure on Corban's keeper, Makida Herbert. She was able to fend them off until the 25th minute when Morgan Farrington scored on a corner kick by Erika Skindlov. The Warrior offense was only able to get off a single shot in the first half.
Corban came into the second half composed and looking to equalize, but that would not happen before Eastern was awarded a freekick and capitalized on it in the 52nd minute. Just over a minute later, Corban's Juliana Pires fired back and launched a beautiful ball from 35 yards, right under the bar and over Madeline Barker's hands making the score 2-1, Eastern.
Shortly after, Darby McDevitt wanted insurance and slotted a freekick deep into the back of the net, notching her second score of the evening. The Mounties were relentless on offense, but Herbert, Moe Sato, Cammie Wolter, and the rest of the Warrior defense fought tirelessly until the bitter end.
Pires, Maria-Frances Serrant, and Aubrey Smith all had shots on goal and battled throughout the contest for possession and scoring opportunities, but Madeline Barker recorded seven saves on the evening, allowing just one Warrior goal.
The Warriors (5-2, 1-2 CCC) will kick off their six-game home stretch against the Warner Pacific Knights (1-5, 0-3 CCC) next Friday at 3:30 p.m. at CFC Soccer Complex in Salem.
