Garcia and Barajas Help Warrior Women’s Soccer to 2-0 Win Over Lewis & Clark

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University women's soccer team continued its hot start to the 2021 fall campaign on Saturday, cruising to a 2-0 victory over NCAA Division III Lewis & Clark College. Chanel Garcia and Klarissa Barajas each found the back of the net in the triumph, while Makida Herbert registered her first career clean sheet in goal.

"The ladies demonstrated courage and endurance throughout tonight's match," said associate head coach Derick Gonzalez. "We can't wait for our next game!"

A key component to Corban's success early on this season has been jumping out to an early advantage. The Warriors have drawn first blood in each of their three wins this season, and both of this week's victories were aided by goals in the first 15 minutes of play.

Tonight, it was Garcia's turn, as the talented attacker found the back of the net for the first time this season in just the ninth minute of Saturday evening's battle.

Mei Suetsugu helped setup the score, earning her second assist of the season on the play.

That lead would last for the remainder of the half, but Barajas added some valuable insurance in the second half.

Barajas entered the contest midway through the first half and fired a shot on frame that was saved by Lewis & Clark goalkeeper Sophia Young in the final moments of the period. While her first opportunity proved fruitless, she would capitalize on her second chance, slotting one past Abby Prager in the 60th minute to double the Warrior lead.

That would be more than enough cushion for Herbert and the Corban defense, as the Warrior keeper notched four saves between the pipes to help her squad cruise to another strong road victory.

Corban moves to 3-0 on the young season, and will return to action on Friday, September 10 to face off with NCAA Division II foe Saint Martin's University. The contest, which is set to take place in Lacey, Wash., will begin at 3 p.m.
