No. 3 Warriors Sprint to Finish Line in Three-Set Sweep of Knights

PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 3 Corban University Women's Volleyball team (21-2, 14-1) handled business today at C.C. Perry Gym, sweeping the Warner Pacific University Knights (1-13, 1-13) in straight sets, 25-10, 25-12, and 25-9.

"It was a great team effort. I was proud of the way we played defensively!" Warriors' Head Coach Kim McLain shared earlier this evening. "It was great to see Jadah out on the floor for the first time this year! Our serving and passing was excellent this evening, which allowed us to stay in system all night long."

The Warriors and Knights battled to begin the first set, but Corban was able to utilize a late streak to take the set 25-10. Corban forced a Warner Pacific timeout with a 19-9 advantage, then rode a 6-1 rally to end the set.

The Knights once again hung tight with the Warriors to begin the second set, trailing only by two points at 4-6 before the Corban offense kicked up the intensity. With a lengthy 15-6 lead, WPU needed to talk things over once again, with the Warriors running away in set number two. The Warriors eventually took the set 25-12, as sophomore middle blocker Jadah Schmidtke saw the floor for the first time this season, securing her first kills of 2022 as well.

With all the momentum the Warriors could ask for, they rode yet another streak to an 8-1 lead, pushing the Knights into an extremely early timeout for set number three. Corban kept a steady defensive mindset to lockdown the Knights once again, winning the third and final set with ease, 25-9.

The Warriors as a team dominated every facet of the contest, registering an unbalanced attacking advantage of 46-17 in kills, 41-15 in assists, and 8-1 in service aces. Corban also held Warner Pacific to a .000 attacking percentage, as the Knights recorded just as many errors as they did kills.

Despite an incredible defensive performance in the backcourt tonight, the Warriors pummeled the floor with kills at an incredible rate, with almost half of their attempts resulting in kills (.447 attacking percentage).

Corban was once again led offensively today by sophomore outside hitter Rylee Troutman, who smashed a game-high 14 kills to record her 10th straight double-digit kill count for a contest. The Powell Butte native has now eclipsed the 300-kill mark for the season, continuing to lead all conference players.

Senior outside hitter Avari Ridgway earned 11 kills and eight digs, falling just two digs shy of adding another double-double to her resume. Senior libero Kealani Ontai was the only player to register double-digit digs with 15 tonight.

Opposite hitter Tevlin Britten was one of the shining stars for the Knights this evening, as she tallied a team-high nine kills. Defensively for WPU, libero Sabah Mohammady locked down the backcourt with a team high nine digs.

One more road trip to Portland for the Warriors is in store tomorrow evening, as Corban heads to Multnomah University to battle the Lions at 5pm PDT.
