SALEM, Ore. – A Senior Day win wasn't written in the stars this afternoon for the No. 23 Corban University Men's Soccer team (14-2-1), as the Warriors dropped only their second contest of the year to the Southern Oregon University Raiders (11-5-0, 8-3-0) at the Outdoor Athletic Complex by a final score of 0-1.
"Tough result today. I thought we deserved better, but not how the match finished. We are excited for the weeks ahead," Warriors' Head Coach Tim Kagey said following his team's final home game of the season.
In a contest that featured three yellow cards in the first six minutes and 11 for the entire match, the Warriors and Raiders exchanged blow for blow the entirety of the afternoon, but Southern Oregon was able to come out come out victorious with a 78th minute goal.
After Corban and SOU completed a scoreless first half, both squads took shot after shot in the beginning of the second half, before Raiders' forward Evan Norconk juked Warriors' graduate student goalkeeper Quinn McCallion for only the fifth goal allowed by the Wallingford, U.K. native all year long. Norconk was assisted by forward Bryan Millan on the play.
McCallion (14-2-1) earned four saves in the Warriors' loss today, while SOU goalkeeper Anthony Armenta (4-2-0) shutout Corban with six saves for only the second time this season that the Corban Men's Soccer team has been held scoreless.
Warriors' sophomore midfielder Andre Labate led the Warriors on the offensive end with four of the Warriors' 14 shots, earning a pair of shots on goal as well. Norconk held the advantage in shots on goal for SOU with two, while midfielder Adrian Villegas led all players with five shots.
The No. 23 Corban Men's Soccer team will return to action in their final contest in CCC play a week from today, as the Bushnell University Beacons (4-12-1, 2-10-0) will host the Warriors on October 29th at 7pm PDT.
