CALDWELL, Idaho – Dropping only their fourth set in over a month, the No. 5 Corban University Women's Volleyball team (18-2, 11-1) handled the College of Idaho Yotes (5-14, 4-8) in four sets to nab their 11th straight win and further solidify their spot near the top of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings.
"We came out ready to play tonight," Warriors' Head Coach Kim McLain said earlier this evening. "Our serving wasn't as aggressive in the second set, which allowed C of I to take advantage offensively. I was proud of how we finished the match working together as a unit."
The Warriors kicked off the first set on a 7-2 run and never looked back, allowing just 10 more points to the Yotes for the entire set. Sophomore outside hitter Rylee Troutman began her domination of C of I with five kills in the first set alone, a fifth of the Warriors team points.
The Yotes battled back in the second set and led for a majority of the period, thanks to a four-point run early in the set and a three-point run late to keep the Warriors at bay. C of I clutched out five of the last eight points to nab the 25-19 set two win, and even this match at a set apiece.
Determined to not drop another set on the road, Corban fought tooth and nail in the third set to jump in front of the Yotes with a 15-12 advantage. Five straight points led to a Yotes' timeout, but even the stoppage of play couldn't withhold the Warriors' offense from storming to a 25-21 set three win.
The Yotes managed to stick with the Warriors early in the fourth and eventually final set, but Corban put together a 13-3 run to find themselves in the driver's seat of a 19-8 advantage. The Warriors went point-for-point with the Yotes to close out the match, winning the final set 25-16 and leaving Caldwell with another victory.
Troutman completed her huge night with a game-high 18 kills and 12 digs for her sixth double-double on the year, while freshman opposite hitter Makayla Roginski smashed 11 kills on the other side of the net.
Senior setter Jadyn Mullen dealt out 28 assists for Corban, while also earning four service aces in the backcourt. Senior libero Kealani Ontai dug out 20 digs for the game-high in the category, and senior outside hitter Avari Ridgway owned a huge defensive night with 16 digs and a pair of blocks, falling one kill shy of a double-double with nine.
Yotes' Isabelle Combs converted on 11 attacking attempts to lead the team in kills, while setter Analise Hitchcock earned a game-high 34 assists with eight digs. Libero Ali Carpenter nabbed 14 digs to lead C of I in the backcourt.
A massive NAIA Top-5 matchup awaits the No. 5 Warriors tomorrow night, as Corban will compete in one of their most important conference rematches of the 2022 season in La Grande, Oregon at 5pm PDT against the No. 1 Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers (19-1, 12-0).
