OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Corban University Women's Soccer team (7-1-3, 3-0-3) improved upon their undefeated Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) record this afternoon by shutting out The Evergreen State College Geoducks (0-7-2, 0-5-1) by a final score of 3-0.
"Every player who came into today made an immediate impact," Corban Head Coach Whitney Pitalo shared following her team's fifth-straight shutout.
"We were able to use our depth today with all three goal scorers coming off the bench. It was a great team win, and we are looking forward to our matchup tomorrow," Pitalo concluded.
The scoring kicked off with the second goal of the season from sophomore midfielder/forward Shayla Hatfield, who scored in the 17th minute with an assist from senior midfielder Aubrey Smith.
Freshman forward Carley Diaz managed to connect on her first career goal in the second half, with senior midfielder Kaliegh Haworth earning her first assist of the year as well.
The third and final score of the afternoon came off the foot of Haworth, who logged her first goal and assist of the season to highlight an impressive day for the Warriors.
Junior forward Fatima Jimenez led the Warriors offensively with six shots, two of which were on goal. Diaz followed behind with five total shots, but managed a game-high four shots on goal along with her first career goal. Evergreen State midfielder Eden Comstock earned a game-high of two shots for the Geoducks.
Warriors' junior goalkeeper Makida Herbert (7-1-3) nabbed four saves in a combined shutout with junior goalkeeper Malia Alonzo, who logged 26 minutes in the net without a save attempt. Geoducks' starting goalkeeper Amity Brookshire allowed one goal in her single half of play, swiping four saves before goalkeeper Anna Verela came in on relief to allow the goals to Diaz and Haworth and collect four saves of her own.
Corban Women's Soccer returns to the field tomorrow morning for a huge CCC contest against the Northwest University Eagles (9-0-2, 5-0-1) at the NU Athletic Field, with kickoff scheduled for 12:30pm PDT.
