Corban Women’s Soccer Season Comes to End in CCC Quarterfinals

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Corban University Women's Soccer team's season came to an end this afternoon in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament Quarterfinals, as the Warriors fell to #4-seeded Eastern Oregon University by a final of 3-0 at the Les Schwab Sports Park.

"This one stung, especially for our seniors. I don't think the scoreboard reflects how well the team played today," Warriors Head Coach Whitney Pitalo said later this evening.

"Unfortunately, we had a few defensive mistakes that cost us and had a goal called back that would have tied the game, but I'm proud of what the team accomplished this season. I'm sad to see it come to an end, this is a special group," Pitalo concluded in their final game this season.

In yet another CCC Tournament appearance for the Corban Women's Soccer program, the Warriors dropped their matchup today on a freezing cold Tuesday afternoon, yet still played some of their best ball of the season.

Eastern Oregon got on the board first near the end of the first half, as a rebound opportunity off a Corban defender resulted in a shot on goal from midfielder Brooke Ford that rocketed into the back of the net for the Mounties.

The second score came just minutes after the halftime break, when Warriors' junior goalkeeper Makida Herbert punched a shot out of the box, only for Mountaineers' midfielder Erika Skindlov to return to sender past Herbert and into the net, doubling the EOU lead in the process.

Eastern Oregon tacked on an insurance goal in the 79th minute when defender Chloe Flynn found paydirt on the Mounties' third ricochet goal of the day, as her shot was deflected in front of the net by a Corban defender and juked Herbert in front of the net.

Despite the three-goal shutout loss, Corban kept pace with EOU all game, recording only one less shot and two less shots on goal offensively. The physicality that Eastern Oregon presented proved to be the difference maker, with their 15-3 foul margin resulting in zero cautions and a handful of opportunities.

Corban junior defender Jamine Biava led the Warriors with four shots and three of them resulting in saves by EOU goalkeeper Madeline Barker. Herbert earned four saves in the season-ending loss.

Barker tallied five saves in goal for the Mountaineers to keep the Warriors off the board, while three different Eastern Oregon student-athletes recorded a pair of shots and shots on goal.

The Warriors end their season 11-4-3 overall, one of their highest win totals in recent years, with the most shutouts in a single season by any Corban Women's Soccer team, setting the new school record at 12 shutouts. Additionally, the Warriors saw their first ever NAIA Defensive Player of the Week award, along with four different All-Conference representatives.
