REDDING, Calif. – After splitting with both William Jessup University and Menlo College, the Corban University softball team was not able to take a win from Simpson University on the third day of their California road trip.
The Red Hawks recorded a total of 29 hits on the day, proving that their offense is a force to be reckoned with for all the north-west teams this preseason.
Simpson jumped out to early advantages in both contests, scoring in five different innings of game one, and scoring nineteen runs through the first five innings of the finale. While Corban fought valiantly to get back into each battle, the early deficits would be too much to keep pace with.
Karla Calderon went 3 for 4 (RBI, R) in game one to pace the Warriors' offensive efforts.
Both Paia'ala Wilcox-Molina (2-for-4, RBI) and California Johnson (2-for-4, 2 RBI, R) finished with multi-hit performances in the defeat.
For Simpson, Chloe Garcia (2-for-3, BB, 2 RBI), Meridian Enriquez (2-for-3, BB, 2 RBI), and Cailey Rizzardo (2-for-3, BB, RBI, R), and Akela Holder (2-for-3, RBI, R) all turned in multi-hit efforts at the dish for the hometown squad.
Trailing by seven early in game two, Meri McElligot drew a walk, Taylor Beasley singled, Calderon was hit by a pitch, and then Maddie Ogles walked to score McElligot. In an attempt to spark a Warrior two-out rally, Wilcox-Molina doubled, scoring Beasley and pinch runner, Johnson.
Beasley (2-3, 2 R) was the lone Warrior with a multi-hit performance in game two.
Corban (4-8) will return to the comforts of Warrior Field next week, hosting University of British Columbia for a pair of non-conference matchups on February 22.
