Corban Women’s Hoops Concludes Season with Loss to Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Corban's women's basketball team closed out its 2022 season with a 69-59 loss at the hands of the Eagles of Northwest University in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon.

"This team played their hearts out for a full 40 minutes tonight. The run to get the lead in the second half was a thing of beauty!"

Corban was down 39-25 going into the second half, but the Warriors held Northwest to just nine points in the third quarter, while scoring 20 of their own. With the lead cut down to just three, the ever-resilient Warriors vied for the lead until there was just under nine minutes left in the contest and a shot from deep from Gemma LaVergne put Corban up by one. After that, Northwest went on a 12-point run, and never looked back.

Grace Meza was an all-star for the Eagles, notching 16 points and five rebounds, while Sam VanLoo recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the hometown squad.

With today's loss, Corban ends the season at 5-24 overall and 4-18 in CCC games. Meanwhile, Northwest improves to 17-12 overall and 11-11 in conference contests.

Offensively, LaVergne was aided by two other Warriors – junior Holly Golenor and freshman Madison Hodnett – that scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Hodnett helped the Navy and Gold's rebounding effort with nine boards, while senior Kaci Paffhausen handed out an assist to go along with three points and two rebounds for Corban.

Gracie McCoy played 28 minutes tallying two points, two rebounds, and four assists in her final game donning the Navy and Gold.

Pilgeram added, "I am so proud of Keila, Kaci, and Gracie who played their last collegiate games tonight, but leave a lasting legacy on this program."

That concludes the season for Corban, as the Warriors will now look forward to the 2022-23 season that is scheduled to begin in the fall.
