Corban Softball Splits Doubleheader with Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University softball team moved to a .500 winning percentage in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play this morning after Warner Pacific took game three of the series, 5-4. The Warriors bounced right back, and Tatiana Liu pitched a one-hit gem to take game four 8-0 in five innings.

Warner Pacific started the scoring in the bottom half of the first frame when Emma Foster doubled to left field, scoring Alexis Morrow. A single from Carrigan Foster scored two more immediately after.

The Warriors made a strong comeback that began with a sacrifice bunt from Karla Calderon that brought Logann Walker home. Shortly after, Kaycee Arase (3 H, 2 RBI, R) scored Madison Wyllie and Samantha Martinez with a double to centerfield.

In the fifth, Meri McElligot (2 H, RBI) singled to center, plating Arase to take the score to 4-3 in favor of the visitors.

The hometown team was not willing to give up a win easily, and in the bottom of the sixth Faith Vadelund doubled to left bringing home Christina Barrett and Kassidie Bukoski with her game winning two-bagger.

Alise Olson scattered six hits and five walks, but the Knights were able to plate five earned runs and take game three.

Game two was an entirely different story for the Navy and Gold. Arase's hit streak was extended to eight, and she, Cambria Kerze, and Morgan Gleeson all hit solo-homers.

Seven of the Warrior's eight runs were brought in by different players with McElligot, Calderon, Gleeson, California Johnson, and Sarah Bradshaw all plating runs in addition to the three round-trippers.

In addition to the unstoppable Navy and Gold offense, Tatiana Liu returned from her injury in style tossing a one-hit shutout against the Knights earning herself her first win of the season.

Warrior softball will take the field again next weekend in Bellevue, Washington looking for a few more wins in CCC play. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday at Bellevue College.
