High Scoring Affair Gives No. 25 Warriors Conference Opening Weekend Sweep with 8-0 Victory Over Wolves

SALEM, Ore. – The No. 25 Corban University Men's Soccer team (7-0-0, 2-0-0) ended the opening weekend of Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play with an explanation point Sunday evening, as the Warriors trounced the Walla Walla University Wolves (0-4-0, 0-2-0) with eight goals to post their seventh straight shutout to start the season, with the final scoreboard showing 8-0 at the OAC on Corban's campus.

Warriors' Head Coach Tim Kagey shared following tonight's game, "Great team win tonight! We are just getting started and have lots of work still to be done. We are now fully focused on our tough matchups next weekend."

The Warriors piled it on this evening against the Wolves, scoring three times in the first half and five more in the second, with six different goal scorers jumping into the offensive action.

Redshirt junior forward Nate Sherwood finally earned his first goal of the season after multiple solid opportunities through the first six games of the season, launching a strike inside the penalty box and past the diving hands of Wolves' goalkeeper Diego Molina.

A pair of senior defenders jumped in on the scoring action in the first half as well, with Robin Terry finding the back of the net for the first time this season on an assist from senior forward Reggie Reyes, while senior Carlos Llamosa scored on a pinball rebound pass in the penalty box from the foot of sophomore defender Edson Jimenez with just 0:03 left on the clock.

Despite a 3-0 lead, the damage could have been much worse for Walla Walla, as Corban outshot the Wolves 16-0 in the first half alone, 10 of which were on goal.

Senior midfielder Yuki Onishi scored his second goal of the year on a penalty kick opportunity due to a WWU handball in the penalty box, which Onishi converted with ease to stretch the lead to 4-0.

With some help from fellow sophomore midfielder Alexis Luna, dual midfielder/forward Andres Labate scored his fifth goal of the season on an unsuspecting Molina, giving Luna his fourth dime, and thus taking the lead over Labate in total assists on the team.

That lead would not stand to last long, as Labate would find Reyes less than seven minutes later to tie Luna once again in assist count, giving Reyes his fifth score of the season to force a four-way tie in goals with himself, Labate, Luna, and freshman forward Jaden Dubon.

The penultimate score of the game would come from Terry earning a brace for his second goal of the game, while the final goal came on an own-goal the Wolves committed while trying to clear the ball from the penalty box on a Sherwood cross.

Reyes led the Warriors with five total shots, four of which were on target. Terry finished a perfect 2-for-2 on shots, shots on goal, and goals in 84 minutes played.

The Wolves would finish with two shots against the stingy Warriors' defense, both on goal to give Corban graduate student Quinn McCallion (7-0-0) some action in the second half with two saves. Molina (0-4-0) earned nine saves in goal tonight but allowed eight goals for his fourth loss of the season.

The No. 25 Corban Men's Soccer team will host their final two home games before a lengthy three-week road trip this upcoming weekend, when they host the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers (4-2-1, 1-1-0) on Friday at 3pm PDT, and the College of Idaho Yotes (3-2-1, 1-1-0) the following day at the same start time.
