No. 21 Corban Men’s Soccer Secures Ninth Straight Shutout with Four Goals Against Yotes

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University Men's Soccer team (9-0-0, 4-0-0) downed the College of Idaho Yotes (4-3-1, 2-2-0) this afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex for their ninth straight shutout to begin the 2022 season, with the final score of 4-0 shining on the scoreboard after the 90 regulation minutes came to an end.

"Another good team performance today. It was great to see our depth on depth today, but we still have some things to address before next weekend's contests," Warriors' Head Coach Tim Kagey said after the conclusion of his squad's victory.

The Warriors posted their ninth straight win and shutout on the helm of graduate student goalkeeper Quinn McCallion's unscathed 9-0-0 record, earning himself a spot on the all-time single season leaderboard next to Corban great Jordan Farr for the fourth place slot in the record books.

The scoring began this afternoon with a classic Warrior pinball offensive scheme, as an advantage foul provided redshirt junior Nate Sherwood with a golden opportunity to find an open teammate in the penalty box. After Sherwood sent a cross into the box, a quick touch from sophomore midfielder Alexis Luna gave senior forward Reggie Reyes the look he needed to slide one past the diving hands of Yotes' goalkeeper Tom Baynard-Smith.

Reyes' 23rd minute goal would be the only first half score of the contest, but he would return the favor in the 55th minute with an assist to sophomore defender Edson Jimenez, who earned his fourth goal of the season to provide the Warriors with a little breathing room.

Sherwood earned his third goal in as many games 20 minutes later, as senior midfielder Yuki Onishi found him sprinting into the box after a breakaway opportunity, allowing him to score with ease.

Just over three minutes later, a hard foul in the penalty box provided senior midfielder Saad Mohacht with a penalty kick opportunity, which he converted without breaking a sweat to earn his second goal of the year.

Corban outshot the Yotes 9-3 over the course of this contest, with six of those nine shots on target. The College of Idaho managed a single shot on goal, which McCallion carefully corralled.

Sherwood and Reyes each netted a goal and assist once again to lead the Warriors' offense, with sophomore midfielder Andres Labate leading all players with three shots.

The No. 21 Corban Men's Soccer team will hit the road for a three-week trip, starting in Portland, Oregon with the Lions of Multnomah University on tab for next Friday, September 30th at 2:30pm PDT.
