CALDWELL, Idaho – The offense was unable to find any traction against an NAIA Top 25 opponent today in an afternoon matchup for the Corban University Men's Soccer team, as the Navy and Gold fell 5-0 on the road to RV College of Idaho, who scored early and often to keep pace in their pursuit of a Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season title.
"We struggled to get into the flow of the game and put together our gameplan," head coach Corbin Bowers stated. "Definitely a frustrating result but we must bounce back and focus on what's ahead of us as we still have an opportunity to qualify for the postseason."
Before the first minute of the match could come to a close, the Yotes (9-2-2, 8-1-1) found the early opportunity they needed to take an advantage on their home field, scoring on a goal from midfielder Jorge Fernandez at the 59 second mark.
Despite allowing the opening goal, the Warriors (2-6-6, 2-4-4) would go on to keep C of I scoreless for the remainder of the half, even finding a handful of scoring opportunities themselves, but just unable to locate the equalizer through 45 minutes of play.
College of Idaho completely unlocked their true potential on Corban in the second half, scoring four goals in total to take the match five goals to none. Fernandez would score the first three goals of his season against the Warriors for a hat trick performance, with the second and third overall goals being added by midfielder Joao Bastos and defender Emil Powles.
Getting shutout for only the third time this season, Corban managed five shots this afternoon, three of which came on goal. Redshirt freshman Ian Waindim led the team with two shots in total. Yotes' goalkeeper Tom Baynard-Smith collected the clean sheet with three saves, his sixth of the season.
The Warriors will continue their season finale road trip tomorrow as they make the long drive back up the I-84 corridor, as they'll battle Eastern Oregon University (3-7-4, 3-5-2) on the Mounties' Senior Day at 4pm PT.
