PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 5-ranked Corban University Volleyball team posted their second-highest team kill percentage for a single match thus far in the 2023 regular season, defeating Warner Pacific University on the road in straight-sets, 25-13, 25-12, and 25-6 at C.C. Perry Gym earlier this evening. Both of the Warriors' most efficient games this season have come against the Knights, posting a .593 clip at home to start the conference slate before a .514 kill percentage earlier today on the road at the expense of WPU.
"It's always great to get a road win to end the weekend," Corban head coach Kim McLain stated. "The team stayed levelheaded and kept their sights set on the gameplan we laid out for them today. We'll spend the next few days resting and preparing before our midweek match at Bushnell next Wednesday."
It was strictly business tonight for the Warriors (18-3, 12-1) as they played for the weekend and season sweeps of the Portland conference members, jumping out to massive leads in every set over the Knights (1-19, 1-12) to end the short road trip 2-0 and keep themselves in contention for a conference crown.
The high-flying Corban offense committed only five errors all night long, combined with 41 team kills compared to only 16 for the hometown team. Junior outside hitter Rylee Troutman led the team with nine kills to eclipse the 300-kill mark for the third consecutive season, giving her 1,482 kills now for her career and sitting firmly in fifth for all-time kills in program history. The Powell Butte native added three service aces and four digs in the backcourt.
Sophomore opposite hitter Makayla Roginski and freshman outside hitter Kendra Bittle each added seven kills apiece, while middle blockers Allyson Reid and Jadah Schmidtke combined for eleven kills and each smashed a .556 kill percentage. Sophomore setter Abby Guindy dealt out a game-high 17 assists and added two service aces along the way.
Defensively for the Warriors, junior libero Marissa Uehara scooped up a game-high ten digs, while Roginski, Schmidtke, and Reid all registered two block assists apiece.
Knights' middle blocker Elizabeth Reid tallied six kills on ten attempts for the Warner Pac, with outside hitters Izzy Moore and Autumn Gaboury-Parker adding four kills each. Setter Kyla Reiling was responsible for 12 of the Knights' 15 assists, while libero Alyssa Asuncion had a team-high seven digs.
The Corban volleyball squad will play one more road contest before returning to the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center, as they'll make the short trip south down the I-5 corridor to battle the Beacons of Bushnell University (11-6, 9-4) in the Morse Center at 7pm on October 11th.
