SALEM, Ore. – A plethora of offense with stout defensive coverage is what was in store for Warrior Nation this afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex, as the Corban University Women's Lacrosse (3-3) jumped back to .500 overall on the season with their second-straight blowout victory over the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers (0-8).
"I'm so proud that we were able to take things from our game on Thursday and implement them into our game today," Warriors' Head Coach Kylie McMinn began with sharing. "One of our goals today was to hold them top less than six goals, which is how many they scored on Thursday, and we did just that."
McMinn continued by stating, "We're thankful for the victory today and give all glory to God as we prepare to take on Multnomah again next week."
It was all Warriors from the start, and they never let up over the course of all four quarters, as a relentless barrage of goals and lockdown defense allowed the Navy and Gold to hold an EOU team to one goal or fewer for the fourth time this season.
After nobody found the back of the net for almost an entire half of the first quarter, junior attacker Sydney Davis scored two goals in the span of just over a minute en route to a 4-0 lead over the first 15 minutes of action.
The Mounties tallied their only goal of the game with seven minutes remaining in the opening half, as attacker Maddy Woodruff bounced one by the Warriors' defensive unit to cut the Corban lead to 5-1.
However, the Navy and Gold piled it on from there, scoring five more goals in the quarter and then six more in both the third and fourth quarter to provide the local fans with an exhilarating 21-1 blowout.
Warriors' junior goalkeeper Payton Nuse was a brick wall in between the posts for her team this afternoon, allowing just the one goal and racking up 11 saves in her third win of the season.
Mountaineers' goalkeeper Sydney Vopat allowed 21 goals to take the loss today, snagging nine saves along the way.
Davis led all student-athletes with six goals this afternoon on ten shots, while sophomore attacker Megan Lia found herself right behind with five goals and a pair of assists. Freshman attacker Naomi Rauch recorded her third-consecutive hat trick and added another two dimes to her team-leading assist totals.
Corban Women's Lacrosse will suit up for their final regular season match next Wednesday, April 19th, as they'll host the Multnomah University Lions (2-6) for the Senior Night festivities.
